Venice is a cultural symbol, a shared imaginary place. The landscapes that distinguish it have become collective objects, if not downright stereotypical images: islands emerging from the water, squares invaded by the tide, Carnival masks. Yet Venice is also a symbol of the unconscious that recurs in people's dreams, serving as a medium to express private and internal issues. Those who visit it, and even those who have never been there, hold it in their imagination and sooner or later dream of it; what they see thus becomes an unconscious metaphorical canvas expressing a psychic state.
After collecting about a hundred dreams from various sources, Costanza Jesurum explores with her unique and irreverent style the oneiric symbolism of Venice, challenging its myth and following its traces in the intimacy of individuals. New symbols thus mix with ancient backdrops, pop heroes with noble palaces, and calli and canals are populated with fanciful creatures. An immersion into the depths of the psyche that allows us to look at the symbol-city from an unprecedented and original perspective.
